A Day in Olympia: Food, Hiking, Kayaking, and Food.
As a ResTech and an Evergreen student, I often find myself indoors behind the soft glow of a computer screen. When I get the chance for some down time I find myself craving the outdoors and good food. This guide is a perfect way to spend a day in Olympia.
Step 1: Prepare for a Picnic @ the Olympia Farmer's Market
Buy picnic and snack food at the Olympia Farmer's Market. So many choices to chose from it may be awhile before you leave (remember to ask for samples). If the market isn't open, The Olympia Food Co-op is next best thing when it comes to buying fresh ingredients for a picnic.
Step 2: Eat Lunch and Hike @ Priest Point Park
Priest Point Park is one the largest parks in the Olympia area. Beautiful views of the sound are seen from picnic tables and hiking trails. Find a good spot and eat then head out on the trails (or just straight for the beach).
Step 3: Kayak @ Boston Harbor
Kayaking is one of the best ways to explore Olympia. Take one look at the map and you will understand why the Puget Sound is one of the best places to kayak in the world. Boston Harbor is beautiful community that features a great marina (awesome deals on salmon while in season) and great kayaks and boats to rent. I recommend heading south from Boston Harbor towards downtown Olympia for awesome views of the city and Rainier (on a clear day).
Step 4: Dinner @ Koibito
If you love sushi and Japanese food, Koibito will become a staple in your diet.I recommend ordering the Chef Special rolls as many are orginals to the chain. There are two Koibitos in town. One in the westside on Harrison (my favorite) and one downtown on Capitol.
