TCP/IP Configuration

ResNet's DHCP server automatically assigns a IP address to your computer when connecting. If you are unable to get Internet access, check to make sure you are being assigned a ResNet IP address.

Here is an example of a properly configured connection.

  • IP Address: 10.17.10.(0-255)
  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
  • Gateway: 10.17.0.100
  • DHCP Server: 10.12.1.10
  • DNS Server: 10.12.1.1

If your configuration is different, trying renewing your DHCP license.

Please make sure that your computer is set to Automatically get an IP address from the DHCP server.

...On a Mac

Go to System Preferences (click on the Apple in the upper left corner of the screen), and choose 'Network'. Near the top of the screen, there should be a menu titled 'Location'. Make sure this is set to Automatic.

If you still can't get an IP address, change the 'Show' menu to 'Built-in Ethernet'. Under the TCP/IP tab, make sure that the menu after 'Configure IPv4' is set to 'Using DHCP'. For good luck, try clicking the 'Renew DHCP Lease'.

...On a Windows PC

From Start go to Settings, and then Network Connections.

Right click on the 'Local Area Connection' icon, and choose Properties.

In the list of connection types, choose 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)', and then click on the 'Properties' button.

In the General tab, make sure you have selected 'Obtain an IP address automatically', and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.

In the Alternate Configuration tab, make sure you have selected 'Automatic private IP address'.
