Setting Up Cable TV

In order to get cable working with your tv, you will need a coaxial cable.

CoaxialCable

A coax cable [1] is generally black. Both ends are hexagonal with a small wire sticking out of the end.

Locate the coax port on the beige box sticking out of the wall. It will be a cylinder with a small hole in the center. Place the male end of your cable into the female port and screw it into place. Do the same with the coax port on your tv. If there is more than one, find the one labeled 'In'.

Turn on your tv.

If you get all channels from 2 through 70 (or thereabouts), that's great! Your cable is all set up.

If you get channels only up to 13, your tv is not configured properly. Check your owner's manual on how to switch your tv from normal mode into CATV mode, or from Antenna mode to Cable mode.

If your tv allows you to choose between IRC, HRC and Standard modes, try choosing Standard.

If your tv isn't getting any signal, there might be something wrong with your coaxial cable. If your tv is old, you might need to connect your tv to a VCR and have the VCR connect to the cable.
